Collaborative CoachingSM
Collaborative Coaching is a process in which each divorcing spouse has a coach with whom they work to resolve individual difficulties or impasses that prevent full resolution of issues regarding the separation. Each participant also works with their coach to set priorities about decisions they would like to address, as well as preferred outcomes. When both partners are ready, they and both coaches will meet to negotiate agreements or address other issues. Collaborative Coaching is designed to be a facilitative process in which the participants are assisted in making their own decisions and reaching their own agreements. The coaches have experience and expertise in conflict resolution and child development, and provide participants with sound information. However, the coaches do not make decisions for their clients. We believe strongly that given adequate preparation and attention to individual issues, participants are capable of resolving even the most difficult issues.
The primary advantage of Collaborative Coaching is that the service is designed to help participants reach agreements and resolve problems, rather than becoming polarized in adversarial positions. To meet this goal, the coaches collaborate with each other in planning how issues will be addressed. This allows us to meet each participants needs while maximizing the effectiveness of each meeting and the likelihood of agreement.
Collaborative Coaching is not part of any judicial process and is therefore confidential, except for Mandated Reporter requirements. Coaches receive written permission from participants before having any communication with other parties.
